Pixels divided by PPI gives inches

A 2400 pixel width divided by 300 PPI is 8 inches. A 3000 pixel height divided by 300 PPI is 10 inches. Multiply inches by 25.4 to convert to millimeters.

Changing PPI here changes only the calculated size. It does not add image detail or resample a file. A selected print area with a different aspect ratio will require cropping or unused space if you preserve proportions.

Why an 8 × 10 photo loses content at 4 × 6

A 2400 × 3000 image has a width-to-height ratio of 0.8. A portrait 4 × 6 print has a ratio of about 0.667. To fill that print, a centered crop keeps 2000 × 3000 pixels: 200 pixels are removed from each side, or 16.67% of the original image area. The retained pixels cover 4 × 6 inches at 500 PPI.

With Fit selected, the whole image instead covers 4 × 5 inches, leaving half an inch above and below it. Neither option adds detail to the image.

What the preview does not decide

The selected dimensions are the image area, not a guarantee of borderless printer support. A print shop or driver may apply extra cropping. This preview uses a centered crop; check that faces, captions and important edges stay inside it. Your original image is not edited or exported.

PPI measures pixel density at the chosen size. It cannot assess focus, compression, ink, paper or viewing distance. Read fit versus crop and pixels to print size before choosing a final format.
