Printing tools FAQ

Use our printing tools to calculate page scaling, compare paper sizes, estimate image print dimensions, preview photo cropping, diagnose layout problems and generate writing-paper PDFs. The tools focus on print dimensions; they do not merge, compress or edit PDF documents.

Yes. The current tools and four reference/test PDFs are free to use without an account, subscription or payment details. You can also generate graph, dot-grid and lined paper without signing in.

No installation is required. Open the site in a browser with JavaScript enabled for interactive tools. Guides, formulas and worked examples remain readable without JavaScript. Photo decoding and downloading support can vary by browser and device.

No. Selecting a photo opens it locally in your browser. Our photo-preview code does not upload the image to our servers or save a server-side copy. Calculator inputs and generated writing-paper PDFs are also processed in your own browser.

Clear photo removes the tool’s reference to the selected image and cancels any pending preview result. Closing the page ends the page session. Your original file stays on your device and is not changed. This is not a secure-erasure guarantee for device memory, browser caches or your own files.

The writing-paper PDF is generated locally and offered as a download. We do not receive or keep a server-side copy. Once downloaded, the PDF remains wherever your browser saves it until you delete it. Our four ready-made reference/test PDFs are public files served by the website.

No. Local file processing is separate from website delivery and analytics. Cloudflare processes connection information to serve and protect the site. If you allow optional analytics, Google Analytics receives visit and technical information. Our integration does not send your selected photo contents or calculator input values as analytics events. Yes. Choose Reject optional cookies when asked. Calculators, photo previews and downloads work without analytics consent. Use Cookie settings in the footer to change your choice. Withdrawing consent stops future analytics on the reloaded page; it does not erase information already received by Google.

Email is different from local tool processing. We receive what you include in your email, including attachments. Please describe the issue and include the page URL instead of sending private documents. Read the contact guidance before sending.

A4 is 210 × 297 mm; Letter is 215.9 × 279.4 mm (8.5 × 11 inches). Letter is wider but shorter. Use the paper comparison tool to see their outlines and usable areas.

With no reserved printer margins, the geometric fit is about 94.07%. With 5 mm reserved on every edge, it is about 90.71%. These figures scale the entire page and do not guarantee borderless printing. See the A4-to-Letter worked example.

Use Actual Size / 100% when the original measurements must stay unchanged, such as a scale-test sheet. Use Fit when keeping the full page inside the available printing area matters more than exact dimensions. At 100%, content outside the printable area may clip. Read Fit versus Actual Size.

No. Zero simply tells the calculator to use the full sheet rectangle. Your printer, paper and selected print mode determine whether borderless output is supported. Use the printer’s actual margin requirements for a practical fit.

Check for another scaling setting in the application or printer driver, a paper-size mismatch, or multiple pages per sheet. Print a known reference mark, measure both axes, and follow the troubleshooting steps before applying a correction.

Not exactly. If a 100 mm horizontal line measures 96 mm and the vertical line measures 99 mm, the corrections differ. Remeasure and inspect the print settings before changing the scale. The calibration helper shows both calculations.

The local preview accepts JPEG, PNG and WebP images up to 15 MB and 40 million decoded pixels. Unsupported, damaged or very large files may not open. You can still enter pixel dimensions to calculate a crop without choosing an image.

Fit preserves the whole image and can leave white space. Crop to fill covers the selected rectangle by removing outer content when the aspect ratios differ. Our preview uses a centered crop. See both placements before ordering a print.

Divide each pixel dimension by the chosen pixels per inch (PPI). For example, 2400 × 3000 pixels at 300 PPI gives 8 × 10 inches. Multiply inches by 25.4 for millimeters. Use the image print-size calculator for your values.

No. PPI describes how densely existing pixels cover the selected print area. Focus, compression, source detail, paper, ink and viewing distance also matter. A calculation cannot repair a blurred image or guarantee the result of a print service.

The current tool provides a visual preview and crop measurements only. It does not export an edited image or alter the original. Apply the intended crop in your image editor or print service, then inspect its final preview.

Yes. The printable paper generator offers graph, dot-grid and lined patterns on A4 or Letter, in portrait or landscape, with 2–20 mm spacing and 5–40 mm minimum margins.

The generator uses complete spacing intervals and centers the pattern. Your input is a minimum margin. For A4 with 5 mm grid spacing and a 10 mm minimum margin, the top and bottom margins are 11 mm so that the grid uses complete cells.

Download the PDF, select matching paper, choose Actual Size / 100%, and print one page per sheet. Do not print the website screenshot or use Fit for a measurement-sensitive pattern. Check a test print with a physical ruler.

You may use our original printables for personal, classroom and internal business purposes and distribute printed copies free within those settings. Reselling or rehosting our PDF files requires permission. Read the complete Terms of Use.

Check that JavaScript and downloads are allowed, try a smaller supported image where relevant, and reload the page. For generated PDFs, change the settings and generate again before downloading. If the problem continues, tell us the tool URL, browser and steps without attaching sensitive files.
